Achievements: Gifted Certified, MVP Track and Field in College, Nominated in the Who's Who book for Pre-Olympics in Track and Field

Did You Know? Ms. Liner lives in St. Augustine with her husband. She has 3 children and 3 grandchildren. Ms. Liner sings in a gospel group, performing at the Veteran's home in St. Augustine, local places of worship, and other retirement homes. Ms. Liner used to ride horses, now she spends time collecting and feeding them.                     Ms. Liner has a small farm with horses, chickens, dogs, an African gray bird and other pets.

Extracurricular: Ms. Liner supervises the Early Morning Care at Darnell-Cookman

Ms. Liner says- Our science department is very unique. We all truly care for each other and share our thoughts and ideas with each other. If there is a need of any kind, such as help moving, finding a home or rescuing a lost animal, emotional support, and educational support our department all chips in to help. We laugh and play together and even cry together when there are sad occasions. We are truly a FAMILY at Darnell Cookman.

Ms. Nanney says- Students in Accelerated Science are challenged to complete three years of middle school science in two years.  I have the freedom to design lessons that push the gifted/talented student to meet and exceed this fast paced curriculum.  I am privileged to work with science educators who are passionate, life-long learners.  We collaborate to bring lessons to our students that are relevant, rigorous, and aligned.

Mr. Martin says- The atmosphere. I think Darnell really cultivates and fosters a learning environment unlike any other. The teachers in our science department are highly motivated and extremely talented. I truly learn tons each year myself from being around such great colleagues and that clearly translates to our classrooms. Students receive science instruction that is second to none in north Florida and beyond. I think one of our many advantages is the family-like atmosphere we have here. Our students and teachers are able to form relationships over the time that students are here, which also creates a positive atmosphere for learning and a drive in the students to want to succeed for the teachers.

Did You Know? Ms. McGurr has a polychaete named after her, Chaetozone michellae! Ms. McGurr is a certified SCUBA diver who doesn't get into the water nearly often enough for her liking. 

Extracurricular: Ms. McGurr is not currently active with extracurricular activities, currently her free time is dedicated to supporting her child as a full-time dance mom :-) 

Ms. McGurr says- I love the diversity of Darnell-Cookman. Our small population makes it possible to form relationships between students and teachers and those relationships are what, I believe, fosters our safe environment.

Ms. Thomas says- The faculty members and our administrators at Darnell-Cookman are very friendly and to me they are like a family. What I love about this school is that we all share ideas and help each other out to become the most effective teachers in our classrooms. We always work together for the success of our students. Our hope and our goal is to see our students do well in school and be successful in their future endeavors.
