Dr. Latoya Brown

Dr. Latoya Brown is the proud principal of Jean Ribault Middle School. Her humble beginnings in education started with Duval County Public Schools (DCPS). She was an early graduate of Edward H. White High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Chemistry from Fayetteville State University and a master’s in health administration from Webster University. She also obtained a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Brown’s educational experience with DCPS ranges from being a classroom teacher, District Elementary Science Specialist, and Assistant Principal most recently. Serving teachers, students, and parents for approximately 18 years in the field of education in varying capacities has yielded positive results. To highlight a few of her career accomplishments, as a classroom teacher at Westside High School, she achieved the highest learning gains in Biology on the state assessment. Also, she was featured on First Coast News as "Teacher of the Week." Her role as a District Elementary Science Specialist entailed supporting school-based administrators and teachers to improve student performance on the science FCAT. She supported seven elementary schools and five schools showed a significant increase in student achievement on the Science FCAT.

Formerly the Assistant Principal of curriculum, instruction, operation, safety and security, student services, and assessment at Jean Ribault Middle School (JRMS) she moved the school grade to a “C” and has sustained a satisfactory grade ever since. She has been an Assistant Principal for eight years, but for the last six years, she worked alongside the faculty and staff at JRMS.

Dr. Brown’s vision is that JRMS will continue to thrive and be a model school cultivating a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, leadership, and continuous improvement to develop lifelong learners to be globally competitive.
