    What is AVID?
    AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is designed to increase school wide learning and performance.  The mission of AVID focuses on providing access to four-year colleges for students in the middle capable of completing a college preparatory path so that they achieve success in a rigorous curriculum.
     
    Here at MCSMS the AVID Team supports students through an academic elective class and supports educators through professional development and team planning. 
     
    AVID Objectives:
    -To provide academic instruction and other support to students and to prepare them for eligibility to four-year colleges and universities.
    -To give students college level entry skills
    -To motivate students to seek a college education
     
    AVID Activities:
    -Learning with college tutors
    -Writing for all classes
    -Preparing for a professional career
    -Visiting college campuses
    -Interacting with guest speakers
     
    AVID Academic Benefits
    AVID provides a myriad of benefits to its participants.  Students receive curricular support for core classes focused on rigor.  Students will participate in structured tutorials where they will work with tutors who ask the students higher level questions in order to facilitate learning.  There is emphasis placed on study skills, organization, goal setting, and time management.
     
    AVID Student Selection
    All potential AVID students are required to apply and participate in a group interview.  Students are selected based upon grade point average, attendance, behavior, and course enrollment.
