Thanks for your business!
The students in the “Specially Grown” enterprise plant seeds, bulbs, and transplant cuttings to produce fruit, flowers and vegetables. These plants are grown in a greenhouse and raised-bed garden. The students prepare the pots and garden soil, plant the seeds and transplants, water and fertilize the plants until they reach maturity. They maintain 30 blueberry bushes which produce fruit in the spring. The students planted the blueberry bushes and they perform regular care by weeding, fertilizing, and watering so that they will produce fruit in the spring. They also maintain a native plant butterfly garden with host plants for butterflies and caterpillars. The students assemble decorative betta fish vases which consist of a beautiful, clear ginger jar vase, a peace lily and a brightly colored betta fish.
Instruction in the “Specially Grown” enterprise is designed to teach positive work behaviors and attitudes so that the students are better able to experience success as they move into volunteer positions and competitive employment.
As our students begin working, their supervisors and employers stress that good employability skills are necessary to finding and keeping a job.
Students are to conduct themselves in ways that are safe and appropriate, that will prevent harm to themselves and the environment, and will not violate accepted rules and laws. The students may also need to adapt their behavior to specific locations and jobs. Our students are working diligently to improve their work and employability skills as they complete the tasks in the “Specially Grown” enterprise.
