• Southside Middle School Counseling



    Southside Middle School Counseling Program contributes to the development of productive, educated citizens by providing excellence in counseling services in a safe, positive student environment where culture and diversity are valued and the dignity and respect of each student is maintained.


    Southside Middle School Counseling Program partners with families, community, and educational personnel to help all students acquire the academic, career and personal/social competencies necessary to become responsible citizens, productive workers and lifelong learners.


    The Southside Middle School Counselors believe:

    All students:

    • have dignity and worth
    • have the ability to achieve
    • have the right to participate in the school counseling program with state-certified counselors

    School counselors:

    • assist students by reducing barriers to academic success; increasing student life skills
    • serve as advocates for each student and the school counseling program
    • manage, deliver and evaluate the counseling program
    • abide by the American School Counselor Association and Duval County Public Schools professional ethics codes and policies

    The School Counseling Program:

    • is based on school data, related to student competencies
    • collaborates regularly with stakeholder
    • is consistent with expected developmental stages of student learning
    • values diversity and considers ethnic, cultural, linguistic and racial differences
    • utilizes community resources
    • provides quality services based on best practices
