Ms. Helen Payne

I am proof that it is never too late to follow your dreams! (New teacher at 53!) I love all things related to teaching, from the children (most important) to all the paraphernalia that goes along with it; books (love to read), paper, pencils, glue, white boards, sticky notes, rulers, paper clips, more papers, grading, organizing,  etc., etc. I get excited when there's a sale on binders and clips.

I will be THAT teacher who wears the funky teacher earrings or gets dressed up in some wacky outfit for crazy days. I once dressed as a pilgrim woman for a fifth grade history lesson, taking on the persona of that time and age.  I wear a pink cowboy hat I call "the multiple meaning word hat" whenever I come across a word that has more than one meaning,  it's fun, but it also helps my kids remember, because their teacher is not afraid to look silly.  I also wear a white science lab coat and safety googles when I give science lessons, to get into the science mode, my kids love it, I wish I could find mini coats for them too. Maybe someday...

In my down time, you will find me reading a book on the beach, probably a stack of them... I read everything. I love music, don't watch much t.v.  Music will definitely be part of my classroom environment.  I am also addicted to Pinterest. (Don't tell anyone.)  I love being creative,  I  spent an entire day and evening last Christmas making origami Christmas trees out of one dollar bills for  "Luca's tree lot"  for my nephew.  I love origami!! I can fold fancy envelopes, butterflies, boxes, frogs, clothes for boys and girls, books, and many other things. I know, weird.

I have a cat named "Pretty Girl", three grown children and four grandchildren whom I love to the moon and back. (not in that order)

I love being challenged, and teaching math will be that for me. (I can relate to those kids who struggle, which I think is a plus)   I am excited, a little nervous, but full of anticipation for the start of the new school year.  Lastly, I am grateful for the opportunity to be working here at Cedar Hills, so far it's been nothing but a great experience, and everyone I have met so far has been super welcoming and helpful. THANK YOU!!
