First Aid and Safety

  • The First Aid and Safety course provides a basic overview of the causes and preventions of unintentional injuries, appropriate emergency responses to those injuries and crisis response planning. Safety education should include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED), first aid for obstructed airway, and injury prevention. The content should include, but is not limited to, the following:

    • Injury prevention and safety
      • Safety promotion
      • First aid procedures
      • Adult, child, and infant CPR, and AED procedures
      • Disaster preparedness
    • Environmental health (community resources and services)
    • Community health and consumer health (career and public service opportunities)
