    Project AWARE Grant Information

    The goal of the Project AWARE grants are to improve behavioral health awareness among youth-serving adults at school and in their communities.

    The Now Is The Time Project - Advancing Wellness and Resilience Education (AWARE) grant program is designed to expand the capacity of state education agencies (SEAs) and local education agencies (LEAs) to:

    • Increase awareness of mental health issues among school-age youth
    • Train school personnel and other adults who interact with school-age youth so that they can detect and respond to potential mental health issues
    • Connect children, youth, and families who may experience mental/behavioral health issues with appropriate services


    Project AWARE meets these goals by:

    • Expanding access to existing funding systems that support mental health services for school-age youth
    • Expanding access to school- and community-based mental health services
    • Building capacity and leadership to sustain community-based mental health promotion, illness prevention, early identification, and treatment services and initiatives
    • Increase collaboration among families, schools, and communities during program planning
    • Increase coordination among state and local youth-serving systems
    • Identify culturally specific and developmentally appropriate mental health services
    • Provide Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training for adults who interact with school-age youth
    • Engage in outreach to youth and families to promote behavioral health and identify mental illness prevention strategies
    • Identify systems for identifying signs and symptoms early and linking families to existing services
    • Develop and implement a multi-tiered behavioral support framework
    • Identify and implement youth violence prevention strategies
