CRISIS
Situations in which immediate action must be taken to avoid disaster or breakdown, or to protect the health and safety of students and staff.
ALERT Signs
- Suicidal or homicidal ideation/plan/attempt
- Extreme, bizarre behavior (e.g., hallucinations, paranoia, uncontrollable outbursts)
- Death or serious, sudden injury of student or teacher that impacts significant numbers of students/staff
- Natural disaster or major accident
Policy/
Protocol
- Contact a school administrator and/or counselor IMMEDIATELY
- School staff will place a call to the District Crisis Team’s Hotline (390-2535)
- All involved will coordinate with administration and staff to assist in managing the crisis
SUPPORT TEAM:
- District Crisis Team
- School Principal or Designee
- School Counselor
- School Dean
- School Police Officer
- School Psychologist
- School Social Worker
Necessary Information
Individual Student
- Student’s name, grade level, sex, ESE status and any special needs
- Your name, position at the school and phone number where you can be reached for a return call
- Behavior(s) that are being exhibited
- Any history of behavioral difficulties or hospitalizations through the Baker Act, if known
- If the child is removed from school for transport to the Baker Act receiving facility, immediate notification is required to the student’s parent/guardian by the school principal or his/her designee
Significant Number of Students
- Details of the loss or event that has occurred
- Your name, position at the school and phone number where you can be reached for a return call
- Number of students/staff members impacted
- Any special needs or other information that may be relevant to assess the level of response
