Summer Programs
  • Extended School Year (ESY)/Covid Recovery Summer Services

What: ESY provides individualized instructional services beyond the school year for eligible students with disabilities receiving special education services. Eligibility is an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) Team decision.  In considering the need for ESY services, the IEP Team must review current student data to determine one or more of the following:

    • Is the student about to achieve a breakthrough with an emerging skill where a break in service would have a negative impact?
    • Has the student demonstrated significant regression or difficulty recouping skills beyond that of peers in his/her age group?
    • Has the student demonstrated interfering behaviors that inhibit progress and acquisition of skills?
    • Is the student at a critical point of instruction where a break in service would have a negative impact?
    • Is the nature/ severity of the student’s disability such that services beyond the 180 day school year are necessary to continuing progress?
    • Are there special circumstances that precipitate the need for ESY services?
    • Is the student about to achieve a breakthrough with an emerging skill where a break in service would have a negative impact?
    • Has the student demonstrated the need for instruction/services past the 180 day school year in order to achieve a degree of progress toward mastery of goals and objectives?

Once ESY eligibility is determined, the IEP Team will recommend one of the following summer ESY service delivery models:
    • Home Activities
    • Related Service Only
    • Full-Day Direct Services
    • Uniquely Designed Program of Instruction
    • Transition: Paid Career Placement
