Aspiring Engineers Compete to Build Bridges for a Bright Future
Thanks to a partnership between GE, Unison Industries, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida, students got a flavor of what it is to be an Engineer.
Twelve students from Frank H Peterson Academies of Technology were tasked with creating a plan to build a bridge from the ground up, which included calculating and documenting labor and material costs for their bridges, developing blueprints, and coming up with a name for their company.
Working in teams, students look at the methods of brainstorming and researching ideas, designing a diagram and building a model bridge.
The construction and testing of model bridges promote the study and application of fundamental principles physics and also helps high school students develop hands-on skills through bridge construction.
