Kernan Middle proudly welcomes our Gifted and Academically Talented Exceptionalities Academy.
This is our second year offering this program, and it includes inclusion classes for gifted and advanced learners for all core content areas, as well as Pre Early College Electives and the Global Scholars Elective.
Global Scholars Elective Overview (offered to 6th and 7th graders)
The 2017-18 Global Scholars curriculum, Feeding Our Cities, explores the global food system and its impact on cities around the world. Students learn about nutrition and its influence on public health. They discover the complex systems needed to grow, secure the safety of, and distribute food to the world. At the end of the year, students create a Community Action Project to address a global food issue within their local community. Prior to program start, educators receive detailed lesson plans, digital student workbooks, and supplemental resources.
Pre Early College Overview (offered to 7th and 8th graders)
Pre-Early College affords students the opportunity to earn up to four high school credits and three college credits. This program is designed for mature, highly motivated students. This path will lead to Acceleration Programs including Early College, AICE, IB and AP Capstone.
