Meet Your Counselors
My name is Deirdre Clayton and I am the newly hired 12 month school counselor here at Asa Philip Randolph Career Academies. Before coming to A. Philip Randolph, I was a school counselor at Jean Ribault Middle school. I attended Edward Waters College where I received my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. I received my Masters Degree in School Counseling from Webster University.
I was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and have lived several places due to military family life. I consider Jacksonville my home. I have been a school counselor with DCPS for seven years. Prior to becoming a school counselor, I worked in the mental health field as therapist, and prior to becoming a therapist, I was a mortgage underwriter in the financial sector. My first seven years in the district have been rewarding. I'm looking forward to work with the students and staff here at Asa Philip Randolph Career Academies. I am excited to be here!
My name is Chanel Gaiter. The 2020-2021 school year is my first year at APR, but my 5th year as a school counselor. I started my school counseling career by moving to Jacksonville and becoming a school counselor at JEB Stuart Middle School. Before I moved to Jacksonville, I attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. There I earned a B.S. in Psychology with minors in Anthropology and Communication Studies, a M. Ed in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Social Foundations of Education, and an M.Ed./Ed. S in Counselor Education with a specialization in School Counseling.
I am originally from Miami where I was a student in the International Baccalaureate program at North Miami Senior High. I have always been interested in learning about, helping, and studying people and eventually found an interest in social inequality in education. My overall goals at APR are to motivate and assist students in developing and pursuing their long-term career and college goals along with providing mental health care.
