This is my 17th year with Duval County Public Schools and my 4th year at Ruth Upson Elementary. Previously I was a teacher, Reading Coach, Math Coach and Instructional Coach at Hyde Grove Elementary for 12 years, and I spent one year as a Testing Coordinator at Ed White High School. 

     Being an educator is my passion, and the most important part of my job is the relationships I build with my students and their families. Student engagement and learning is increased when there is a relationship built, and families are more likely to be involved when lines of communication are open. It is very important to me that I am meeting all of my students’ needs, both academically and emotionally. 

     I am truly honored to be Ruth N. Upson’s Teacher of the Year. Our school community is like a family, and I am proud to represent the amazing group of dedicated educators I work alongside each day.
