Assistant Principal of Student Services-Mr. Wright
Mr. Wright was born in Jacksonville, Florida. He is a product of Duval County Public Schools where he graduated from William M. Raines Sr. High School. He continued his education at Bethune-Cookman College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. After years of service to students, Mr. Wright decided to continue his higher education at Grand Canyon University where he earned a Master of Education in Educational Administration.
Mr. Wright has over 25 years of teaching experience in both the elementary and secondary school settings. He became a Reading Coach at Brentwood Elementary in 2017 – 2020. While at Brentwood their ELA lowest performing quartile gains went from 27% to 47% in 2017 – 2018 and then 47% to 55% in 2018 - 2019. He provided instructional trainings to teachers through lunch and learns covering topics that aided instructional pedagogy. He worked with a faith-based organization in the community to start Pro Dads for the fathers of Brentwood.
After the 2019 – 2020 school year, Mr. Wright felt compelled to become Dean at Westview PreK – 8th. He contributes the student 20% decrease in referrals to deans being visible and providing restorative justice practices with students. He assisted in organizing the PBIS team which consisted of teachers and administration. Students needed incentives for positive behavior and because of that a school store was instituted through the PBIS team. He considers working with low-incidence students with behavior concerns his greatest highlight and accomplishment while at Westview. Collaborating with others has led to his career accomplishments throughout his tenure in education.
Mr. Wright is excited to bring his experience and his passion for student learning to Mandarin Middle School.
