My child auditioned at DA.... Now what?
Thank you for your interest in Douglas Anderson School of the Arts! Below are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions. For all other inquiries, please email DAAdmissions@duvalschools.org.
How do I know if my child’s audition application packet is complete?
A complete audition packet includes the following:✓ Online Application
✓ Signed Student-Parent Contract
✓ Signed Release Agreement
✓ Copy of student’s most recent Report Card
✓ Letters of Recommendation (2)The only method for submitting forms is by uploading them to the student’s application in SlideRoom.
Once auditions are over, staff will review each student’s packet to ensure we have all necessary paperwork. Please do not call or email about paperwork. If something is missing, we will contact you.
When and how will students receive their audition results?
Results will be sent out mid-March. Parents/Guardians will be notified via the email address they entered for the online application. If my child does not pass the addition, can they re-audition?
Unfortunately, students may not re-audition for the 2023-2024 school year but are encouraged to continue refining their art and audition again next January for the 2024-2025 school year. What happens after I receive the acceptance notification?
When you receive the acceptance email, there will be 2 attachments for you to return electronically. First, the parent/guardian must sign the “Acceptance Agreement”, accepting the seat at DA for the 2023-2024 school year. You must also complete the “Scheduling Request Form” to indicate courses they have completed, are currently taking, and want to take at DA. Students new to DCPS must also complete a “New Student Application” that may be submitted at https://dcps.duvalschools.org. Failure to submit the acceptance forms will result in the forfeiture of your child’s seat at DA.My child is auditioning for 2 different arts areas. What happens if they pass both?
Students who pass 2 different arts area auditions must choose the area for their major and indicate it on their Acceptance Agreement. While DA does not offer “double majors”, students who are accepted into 2 areas may choose a major and a minor. They would then take 2 classes in their major area and 1 in their minor area each year. Please note that it becomes increasingly more difficult to schedule the minor classes, especially in junior and senior years, as classes typically overlap or conflict with the student’s other core art and/or academic classes. What if my child also has a magnet application?
DA is not part of the magnet lottery – acceptance is by audition only. Once a student is offered a seat at DA, the parent/guardian must sign the “Acceptance Agreement” accepting the seat at DA for the 2023-2024 school year. This cancels any other magnet lottery application the student may have (if applicable) and assigns the student to DA.
