Athletic Coach

Become a DCPS Athletic Coach

  • So, you want to become an Athletic Coach?  Duval County Public Schools is looking for talented, dedicated individuals with special skills to coach sports.

  • Florida law requires all Athletic Coaches to hold either a valid Florida Educator Certificate or a valid Athletic Coaching Certificate.  The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) issues two types of Athletic Coaching Certificates, a non-renewable Three-Year Athletic Coaching Certificate and a Five-Year Athletic Coaching Certificate. The Three-Year Athletic Coaching Certificate is issued to provide time to complete the requirements for the Five-Year Athletic Coaching Certificate. For individuals who hold a valid Florida Educator’s Certificate, an additional Athletic Coaching Certificate is not required.

  • Below are the steps to becoming an Athletic Coach for Duval County Public Schools:

    1. Applicant must submit an application for employment as a Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) Athletic Coach at the following link: duvalschools.org/careers

    7. If applicant holds a valid Florida Educator Certificate, an additional Athletic Coaching Certificate is not required. Please note: A district issued Career and Technical Education Certificate (CTE) is not a Florida Educator Certificate.  If applicant does not hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate, the applicant must submit an application online with the FLDOE at https://www.fldoe.org/teaching/certification/on-line-application-status-lookup-site.stml with a credit card payment of $75.  Applicant must submit the application summary and proof of payment to FLDOE to DCPS Human Resources (HR).  There are no VOLUNTEER coaches permitted in/on any athletic facility of DCPS or permitted with students/athletes of DCPS.
