  HANDWRITING

‚          Write all words neatly using manuscript letters

                In preparation of cursive instruction.

  STRUCTURE OF WORDS

‚          Use prefixes and suffixes

‚          Use syllables to decode unknown words

‚          Recognize base words

‚          Recognize compound words

 

   VOCABULARY                                                                         

 ‚         Use antonyms, homonyms, and synonyms

‚             Predict the meaning of unknown words by using context clues

  

  READING COMPREHENSION

‚          Demonstrate comprehension of narrative and informational passages using multiple strategies

‚             Summarize narrative and informational passages including main ideas and details

 

   WRITING, GRAMMAR & PUNCTUATION

‚          Construct complete sentences

‚             Indent the first line of a paragraph

‚             Use pre-writing strategies

‚             Write a descriptive paragraph with main idea and details

PRE-REQUISITES - MATHEMATICS

Mathematics learning is a sequential process.  Instruction at each grade level builds on the foundation established in previous grades.  Students are expected to apply learned skills in problem solving.  It is essential for them to understand concepts and skills to continue to be successful at subsequent grades.

   

 ADDITION, SUBTRACTION FACTS & PLACE VALUE    

‚          Recall basic addition, subtraction facts quickly

‚             Identify place value through 9,999

‚             Read, write, order and compare numbers through 9,999

‚             Round numbers through hundreds

‚             Read and write word names for numerals

‚             Add or subtract numbers with 4 or fewer digits

‚             Choose the operations to solve problems

 

   TIME, MONEY, GRAPHS, AND MEASUREMENT                                

‚          Tell clock and calendar time

‚             Find elapsed time

‚             Read, write and compare money values

‚             Count money and make change from a $5. bill

‚             Read and interpret pictographs, bar and line graphs

‚             Measure to the nearest  inch, centimeter with a ruler

‚             Recall standard units of capacity
