Learn More About the SAT, PSAT, and ACT

  • CollegeBoard Assessments:

    SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test):

    Students can register for this test at any grade level; however, it is typically only recommended for juniors and seniors. This test is used by colleges and universities as a factor for acceptance into their institutions. Qualifying scores on the exam can also satisfy graduation requirements. Students must register themselves for the test, given on Saturday morning at several schools in and around Duval County. DCPS also offers a few School-Day administrations. All juniors take the SAT in-school, for free, in the spring. Benefits include:

      • Students can earn an FSA Reading concordance score (satisfying a graduation requirement) by scoring a 480+ on the EBRW portion.
      • Students can earn an Algebra I EOC comparative score (satisfying a graduation requirement) by scoring a 420+ on the Math portion.
      • Students' scores can qualify them for different levels of the Bright Future Scholarship in the State of Florida
      • Many colleges/universities use SAT scores to determine scholarship eligibility for their institution 

     

    PSAT/NMSQT: Typically administered during a student's sophomore year and again in the fall of their junior year. Helps students prepare for the SAT exam - analyzing a students' performance on this test can help them determine what to study for the actual SAT. Other benefits include:

        • Students can earn an Algebra I EOC comparative score (satisfy a graduation requirement) by scoring a 430+ on the Math portion

    PSAT 8/9:

    Administered during a student's freshman year. Helps familiarize students with the SAT and to prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT.

    AP Exams: 

    Administered at the end of the year for students enrolled in an AP class. Scoring a 3 or higher on this exam allows the student to earn college credit. As of October, 2022, Riverside offers the followng AP Courses: 

      • AP US History
      • AP Physics
      • AP Spanish
      • Other AP classes offered online through FLVS.
