Instructional Materials Adoption

Qualifying Reviewers

To evaluate the quality of instructional materials for use in district classrooms, Duval County Public Schools is seeking qualified expert reviewers to review the Science adoption for the upcoming  2023-2024 school year. In accordance with FL ST § 1006.283, the following criteria will be used for select reviewers to review instructional materials:

District Committee Reviewers:

• • An employee of Duval County Public Schools
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience
  • Hold a Florida Department of Education Certification or Endorsement in one or more of the following areas:
    • Elementary (K-5)
    • Middle Grades General Science (Grades 5-9)
    • Biology, Chemistry, Earth Space, Physics (Grades 6-12)
  • Evidence of substantial science content expertise and student achievement
  • A content area specialist, instructional coach, or district administrator that directly supports instruction in the area of science.
  • Recommendation by a district administrator

District Adoption Reviewers:

• • An employee of Duval County Public Schools
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience
  • Hold a Florida Department of Education Certification in one or more of the following areas:
    • Elementary (K-5)
    • Middle Grades General Science (Grades 5-9)
    • Biology, Chemistry, Earth Space, Physics (Grades 6-12)
  • A content area specialist, instructional coach, or district administrator that directly supports instruction in the area of social studies.
  • Evidence of substantial social studies content expertise and student achievement
  • Recommendation by district or school-based administrator
  • Parent of a student currently enrolled in a Duval County Public Schools
  • A community member who resides in Duval County.

The District and Stakeholder Textbook Adoption Review Committee for Science will convene for review and recommendations for the adoption of instructional materials. The Review committee will meet on November 7th, 2023, through November 13^th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.   The meeting will be held at the A. Philip Randolph STEM Center located at 1157 Golfair Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32209.

 

 The purpose is to discuss the following topic(s): 

 

• Each review committee is to review state proposed materials for determination of recommendation of instructional materials to be adopted for Advance Placement Science courses beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. 

 

 

 

Any person who anticipates an appeal of a decision made by the Review Committee for Science with respect to any matter considered at this meeting, or who may decide to appeal such decision, will need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made.  This record will need to include the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
