"Fresh Out of School” provides students with an opportunity for developing the skills needed to prepare and grow garden and landscape plants for harvest and sale. The schools land lab provides opportunity for students to develop skills that are unique and not offered outside of the program. Raising crops and plants involves applying basic skills in mathematics, reading instructions, computation, plant science, approved practices for handling tools, physical effort, safety in handling fertilizers, etc., and working cooperatively in a group. A final product, a harvest, is tangible evidence of their efforts and work together for a common cause. Students involved in this educational program experience entrepreneurship in its most basic form when the harvest is sold as an agricultural product.
The “Fresh Out of School” enterprise also offers students the opportunity to refurbish surplussed furniture into renewed products for sale.
