• What it Means to be a Board Member

    The Duval County School Board consists of 7 members elected by their constituents. They are the official policy-making body for all education  related issues for the Duval County Public School System.
     

    Salary

    The current salary for a Board Member is $41,836 (2014-2015)

    Board Member salaries are governed by Florida Statute Chapter 145.  Below is the section of our Policy Handbook which addresses this issue.

    CHAPTER 2.00  - SCHOOL BOARD GOVERNANCE AND ORGANIZATION

    SALARY OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS 2.24

    Effective upon approval, and continuing the first regular meeting following the organizational meeting in November of each year thereafter, the annual salaries of the Board members shall be determined or adjusted as provided by law.

    Time Commitment

    Board Members attend:

    • Regular monthly Board Meetings

    • Workshops

    • State and national conferences

    • Visit schools throughout the District

    • Attend various local civic functions

    • Serve on Board subcommittees

    • Attend meetings and functions conducted by organizations throughout the City such as the Chamber of Commerce, Jacksonville Symphony Association, PTA, SAC, DAC, etc.
