Summer Reading List

  • 2023 SUMMER ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

     

    Students are expected to read at least one or book from the list for each course he/she will take in the fall. During the first week of school students will complete assignments regarding their summer reading. Additional information and assignments can be found at www.duvalschools.org/fhp  listed under students summer assignments.

  • 9th & 10th Grade ELA Summer Assignment

    If you choose a fiction book, you need to complete the following:

    1. The book must be a minimum of 150 pages.
    2. First, give a summary of the story (at least one paragraph). Be sure to include the title and author.
    3. Next, write the name of the main character.
    4. Write 3 traits that this character exhibits.
    5. For each trait, give a quote from the book that shows that trait.
    6. Explain how each quote shows the character trait. Each explanation should be at least two sentences.
    7. Finally, state the name of another character in the book.
    8. Write 3 traits that the character exhibits.
    9. For each trait, give a quote from the book that shows that trait.
    10. Explain how each quote shows the character trait.  Each explanation should be at least two sentences.

    If you choose a nonfiction book, you need to complete the following:

    1. The book must be at least 150 pages.
    2. First, give a summary of the book (at least one paragraph).  Be sure to include the title and author.
    3. Next, choose 8 quotes from throughout the book.
    4. Explain how each quote is important to the content of the book.  Each explanation should be at least two sentences.
