Message from the principal
I am the proud principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School of the Arts. Although I am new to MLK, I am not new to Duval County Public Schools. I attended local elementary and middle schools, and graduated from Jean Ribault High School. I earned my Masters of Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix and Bachelors of Arts in Education from the University of North Florida. This is my third year as a principal, but have been an educator for twenty-one years. I am married with two sons and I am passionate about poetry, writing, and the well being of the students I serve.
“It is my vision to create an ongoing culture of GTY- “Greater than yourself”, whereby students have high academic expectations, Educarers establish meaningful relationships, and deliver rigorous and relevant instruction that result in successful learning outcomes for every student.
2021-2022 School year
I am always filled with optimism when I see parents/guardians, family members taking their children to school on the first day. For me, the first day and its spirit represent the purpose of public education and what we do every day for children as servants to the Jacksonville community.
Therefore, as we embark on a new school year, I am confident that this school year will be one filled with joy and success on many levels!
I know this year will have some challenges, with many students returning to brick and mortar for the first time in over a year. However, I know we will overcome those challenges by always focusing on what is best for children and by strengthening the relationship, communication, and collaboration between school and community.
We must own responsibility for the academic and civic development of our students. My staff and I will work hard, prepare, collaborate with our stakeholders, and together we will ensure we fulfill the vision and mission of both school and district.
I thank you in advance for your support.
Let's have a great year… Getting College & Career Ready!
