Meet our Assistant Principal, Mr. Darrell Edmunds

Darrell Edmunds is a Jacksonville native and proud graduate of Duval County Public Schools (Westside HS ’97) with 10 years of experience in education. Prior to teaching, Darrell had a successful first career as a local television news producer – covering many stories highlighting the inequity of our community and the essential function of education. Inspired by his wife (a DCPS teacher), he decided to pursue a career dedicated to impacting students toward a trajectory of transforming our community.

Darrell served as an ESE teacher of English Language Arts, Social Studies and Self-Determination (a transition resource class including social skills, problem-solving and coping strategies) at Alden Road Exceptional Student Center, where he was named the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2014. He is also an alumnus of Teach for America, a national organization with a mission to provide excellent education for every student, regardless of socioeconomic status or background.

Empowered with a strong desire to maximize his impact on our students and the community, Darrell pursued a path of educational leadership and became Assistant Principal at Mandarin Oaks Elementary in 2016. There, he supported teachers and staff to continue the school’s record of excellence (18 consecutive years with school grade of “A”), learned about practices that most greatly influenced student achievement and developed instructional leadership skills to better serve the students at MOE and throughout the district through collaboration with other school leaders. Darrell began the 2020-21 school year at Love Grove Elementary, and is now excited to continue his adventure in education - in service of the students, families, teachers and staff at Hendricks Avenue Grove Elementary! Darrell, his wife Laura and their daughter, Alexis are so happy to be members of the HAE family.
