Ms. Deidra Washington-6th grade ELA
Ms. Valerie Ibanez- 7th ELA/Reading
Mr. Charlo Riney- 7th Reading
Mr. Preston Johnston- 7th ELA
Ms Athena Alford-7th ELA
I have degrees in Education and Business Management focused on child-related businesses. I became a homeowner at 21 and spent a decade as a stay-at-home mother while completing my education. With over ten years of experience coaching youth sports like soccer, basketball, and flag football, I also owned two 24-hour childcare centers in Duval for seven years, selling them just before COVID-19.
My dedication to hands-on learning led me to create an interactive children's museum, which I had to close due to the pandemic. I now manage 16 housing units providing transitional housing for families and have established a reputable Mini Goldendoodle breeding business. I am committed to giving students the same dedication I received from my teachers in Duval, with a focus on improving children's lives and society. I excel in teaching English and Language Arts, which I find rewarding.
As a mother of four, my children are all educated through Duval County Public Schools: my 22-year-old daughter is pursuing her Master’s in Health Administration at UNF, my 19-year-old son is completing his degree in Education at FIU while working as a substitute teacher, my 17-year-old daughter is a high-achieving senior with certifications in digital media, and my 15-year-old son is a violinist attending a school for the arts.
I believe in Einstein's idea that "Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think," and I eagerly anticipate sharing my passion for metacognition with my students.

Beyond her accolades, Ms. Dawes drives a charitable organization that supports children’s homes across Jamaica.
