She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University with concentrations in criminal justice, community mediation and conflict resolution studies. She later completed her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Leo University in 2013. After several years at Fletcher Middle, she was promoted and served as Dean of Students at Fletcher High School from 2012-2014, which led to the honor of being nominated for DCPS Dean of the Year and serving as an Educational Expert panelist for the U.S. Department of Education. In 2015, Ms. Charvat accepted a position as a District Level Specialist for the Office of School Culture and Climate. In her role as Specialist, she provided Dean development, District professional development, and school based technical assistance to Principals at nine urban core schools including, but not limited to S.P. Livingston, Northwestern and Raines High School. Ms. Charvat served as Assistant Principal at Landmark Middle School from 2015-2018 and is excited to be at Kernan Middle School. Her philosophy regarding educational equality for all student is best exemplified by the insightful words of Marian Wright Edelman, “The question is not whether we can afford to invest in every child; it is whether we can afford not to." Ms. Charvat feels privileged in her role as a DCPS “servant leader” to advocate and ensure enriching educational opportunities for all students.
