Julie Hemphill has worked in education since 1999. She graduated with her Bachelor's degree from University of Florida in English with minors in Secondary Education and Teaching English as a Second Language. Her Master's degree is in Educational Leadership from University of North Florida. She taught English at Dunnellon High School in Marion County, Florida and at Paxon School for Advanced Studies in Jacksonville where she also served as an Instructional Coach. Mrs. Hemphill was voted Teacher of the Year at Paxon and was a DCPS semi-finalist in 2004-2005. Mrs. Hemphill has served as an Assistant Principal at Mandarin Middle School and Stanton College Preparatory School. Presently, she is the Principal at the finest middle school in the county – Kernan Middle, where we will all soar above and beyond all expectations!

John Galeani has worked in Duval County since 2007. He attended the University of North Florida and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy with a minor in Psychology; he went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education in 2010. He began his career in education working with special needs students at Sandalwood High School. He went on to teach High School Math and Social Studies as well as Technology courses. Mr. Galeani later served as an Assistant Principal at Landon Middle School before coming to Kernan Middle School as an Assistant Principal.

Latoya Brown has been working as an educator since 2005.
She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Chemistry
from Fayetteville State University. She holds a Master of Health Administration
from Webster University. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate from Nova
Southeastern University in Educational Leadership. Ms. Brown has experience
working in public and private schools K-12, as well as experience at the
collegiate level. Working as a District Elementary Science Specialist,
she successfully collaborated with teachers, school and district-level administrators
to positively impact student academic performance on high stakes assessments in
science. She taught various disciplines in science such as Chemistry, Biology,
AP Environmental Science, Earth Space Science and AICE Biology. She was
acknowledged as “Teacher of the Week” by First Coast News while working at
Westside High School as a Biology teacher, in 2016, prior to transitioning into
her new role as an Assistant Principal at Kernan Middle School.
