I am the PROUD principal of Oceanway Middle School and humbled to serve our surrounding community! We are a neighborhood school, offering our students a comprehensive and individualized middle school experience. As your school principal, I center my focus on providing a safe and nurturing learning environment, ensuring academic excellence in our classrooms, building strong parent partnerships, and engaging our community partners.

Our mission is to prepare all students for success in rigorous high school courses – and, ultimately, for all students to graduate and proceed to college or technical training.  We work to set high academic expectations for all children and hone our supportive systems to ensure all students’ academic success.  We, as a school community, must focus on improving students’ reading and writing skills in our pursuit to ensure our students’ readiness for high school. In addition to setting higher expectations for reading and writing in the classroom, students will be charged to read 25 books during the school year.  Your support in making time for your child to read at home will be instrumental in helping him or her grow as a reader.

I am excited to engage our students in the outstanding programs at Oceanway Middle School.  We have a music program, led by the phenomenal Mr. Jeffrey Horton, that is growing leaps and bounds. You don't want to miss the chance to be in band or chorus! I am also especially proud of our Technology Academy.  We are a "Project Lead the Way" school. PLTW empowers students to develop and apply in-demand, transportable skills by exploring real-world challenges in the field of computer science. Students not only learn technical skills, but also learn to solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate, and collaborate.

If your child is interested in athletics, he or she can choose from an array of sports: football, basketball, cheer, baseball, softball, swimming, golf, volleyball, and soccer. We frequently win North Division championships and many of our athletes go on to elite high school programs.

We set BIG goals for student achievement each year. At Oceanway, we are on our way to being an 'A-rated' school!  If you would like to contact me, my e-mail address is kristansee@duvalschools.org and my phone number is (904) 714-4680. I look forward to working with you and your student as we set our sights on success!

    Warmest regards,
