• Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

I hope you are enjoying a pleasant summer! I am excited to continue moving forward in pursuit of academic excellence with you and your family.  In reflection on the 2016-2017 school year, we have much to celebrate by way of student learning gains in math and reading, 7th and 8th grade success in rigorous high school courses, and increased proficiency rates across contents.  We, at OMS, are energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of your children.

Our mission for the 2017-2018 school year is to prepare all students for success in rigorous high school courses – and, ultimately, for all students to graduate and proceed to college or technical training.  During the 2016-2017 school year, we worked to set high academic expectations for all children and hone our supportive systems to ensure all students’ academic success.  We, as a school community, must focus on improving students’ reading and writing skills in our pursuit to ensure our students’ readiness for high school. In addition to setting higher expectations for reading and writing in the classroom, students will be charged to read 25 books during the school year.  Your support in making time for your child to read at home will be instrumental in helping him or her grow as a reader.

I am excited to engage our students in the outstanding programs at Oceanway Middle School.   This year, students have an opportunity to participate in an arts or technology Career Academy.  In these programs, students will develop and practice skills necessary for professional success in the 21st century.  We are also proud to introduce a 6th and 7th grade honors academy tailored to meet the unique learning needs of gifted and academically talented students.

We are setting BIG goals for student achievement this year. Our motto is “I know I can.”  I know I can. I know YOU can. And, I know WE can transform Oceanway into the ‘A’ school it’s meant to be.  If you would like to contact me, my e-mail address is kristansee@duvalschools.org and my phone number is (904) 714-4680. I look forward to working with you and your student as we set our sights on an academically successful school year. In the meantime, I wish you a safe, happy, and healthy summer!

    Warmest regards,
