Meeting times:Description: We are focused on issues of sustainability and conservation, in the building to start with, but in general as well. At the kick-off event, I offered a demonstration on the making of composted soil and distributed 80 seed kits for the kids to try planting a few little things themselves in composted soil. At the last meeting, we christened our own tumbling composter, and the kids have been adding appropriate lunch leftovers to it. Future meetings this fall will include a scavenger hunt in the building to find ways to save water and energy, a tour of the recycling plant to which all our recycling waste goes, and a virtual tour through the St. Johns River Water Management website.

One year of band experience is required for this audition-based group. Auditions take place in the spring for the coming school year.
It's vital that students be given all of the tools to be successful in high school... jazz band gives students a unique historical perspective on the first (and only) uniquely "American" music and gives them many skills in creativity since there is such a strong emphasis on improvisation (transfers to learning to make split second decisions based on given information, predict what others will do and make inferences based on their predictions, etc.)As a community ambassador, jazz band is the most visual ensemble for the school... playing at the airport, spirit nights (Chick fil A), arts market, elementary schools, etc.Math ClubSponsor: Stacie Gill, email@example.com, ext. 151Meeting times: Wednesday mornings at 8:30 a.m. in room 4-114Description: We will represent Oceanway Middle School on a competitive level in November and February.
