Achievements
Douglas Anderson School of the Arts continues to celebrate a growing list of successes in the arts and academics. This year DA welcomed new students who were accepted by audition from virtually all 23+ Duval County middle schools, 23 private schools, and schools located in other counties and states.
Listed below are just a few recent DA awards and successes:- Recognized as a National Exemplary Arts School of Distinction 2016-2018 by the Arts Schools Network
- Recognized as the National GRAMMY Signature School ten times for having the best high school music program in the country
- Class of 2017: 97% attending colleges, universities, conservatories; $17.2 million in scholarships awarded to 59% of class; and 51% are pursuing degrees in the arts
- Consistently ranked in the top 1% of high schools nationally by Newsweek, US News & World Report, College Board, and the Washington Post
- Four 2014 winners in the National Endowment for the Arts Young Arts Program
- Ranked 14th in Florida’s Top 50 High Performing High Schools
- Two students honored as 2016 National Merit Semi-Finalists
- Two students named 2016 National Merit Commended Scholars
- Two students honored as Young Arts Presidential Scholars Finalists
- Fifty-four 2016 National Scholastic Art and Writing Award winners, represented the top 1% of all submissions
- Two students received Congressional Art Competition Scholarships and have art on display in the U.S. Capitol Building
- Two students received Florida Arts for Life scholarships
- Two students chosen to participate in 2017 Youth leadership Jacksonville
- Wind Symphony performed at prestigious Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago
- Chamber Orchestra also performed at prestigious Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago
- Jazz Band performed at the International Jazz Educators Network Festival in New Orleans
- Over 60 instrumental students qualified for All-State Band Honors
- Two instrumental students qualified for Tri-State Band Honors
- DA graduates’ SAT and ACT scores average 58+ points above national mean
- Recognized as a National Exemplary Arts School of Distinction 2016-2018 by the Arts Schools Network
