Where Arts and Academics Meet in Excellence


Douglas Anderson School of the Arts continues to celebrate a growing list of successes in the arts and academics. This year DA welcomed new students who were accepted by audition from virtually all 23+ Duval County middle schools, 16 private schools, and schools located in other counties and states.

Listed below are just a few recent DA awards and successes:

  •     DA Recognized as the #1 National GRAMMY Signature School in 2010 for having the best high school music program in the country.
  •     Class of 2011: 98% are attending colleges, universities, conservatories; $10.6 million in scholarships awarded; and, 35% are pursuing degrees in the arts!
  •     DA Honored as one of the nation’s Best Academic High Schools and ranked in the top 1% nationally by Newsweek, US News & World Report, College Board, and the Washington Post for the last ten years.
  •     Over 180 DA students recognized as outstanding artists by YoungARTS sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts.
  •     DA ranked 14th in Florida’s Top 50 High Performing High Schools.
  •     DA named National Service Learning School by the Department of Education for the last six years.
  •     DA recognized as a National Leadership School for its rigorous academic curriculum by the International Center of Leadership Education.
  •     Two DA students honored as 2011 National Merit Semi-Finalists.
  •     Two DA students named 2012 National Merit Commended Scholars.
  •     Three DA students win National ACT-SO Award in the Arts sponsored by the NAACP.
  •     Jazz Band was a national Essentially Duke Ellington High School Jazz Band Winner.
  •     Two DA students won NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) Achievement Awards in Writing.
  •     DA Cinematic Arts students have received top honors at national film festivals: National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY); Fort Lauderdale Film Festival; Peace River Film Festival; and, the Tulsa International Film Festival.
  •     DA graduates’ SAT and ACT scores are 50+ points above national mean.
  •     DA recognized as a top National Exemplary Arts High School by the International Arts Schools Network.
  •     Two DA jazz musicians capture DownBeat Magazine honors as nation’s best.
  •     DA vocalist and 2011 Grady-Rayam national winner in Sacred Music invited to White House to sing for a luncheon hosted by the First Lady.

    Consistently ranked among the top three Duval County public high schools
    on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).
