• Parent Involvement Policy

    Dear Parent or Guardian:

    Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, as a parent or guardian you are encouraged to become more involved in your child’s education. As a parent or guardian of a Title I student, you have the right to know and request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher. In addition, you may also request the professional qualifications of any paraprofessionals (teacher assistants) who may provide services to your child. If you request this information, the district will provide you with the following information as soon as possible:

    A. If the teacher has met state certification requirements for the grade level and subjects in which the teacher is providing instruction;

    B. The type of college degree major of the teacher and the field of discipline for any graduate degree or certificate; and

    C. If your child is receiving Title I services from paraprofessionals and, if so his/her qualifications.

    If you would like to receive information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s teacher(s) and/or paraprofessional(s) please send your written request to the following address:

    Coordinator, NCLB Highly Qualified
    Human Resource Services; Room 509
    Duval County Public Schools
    1701 Prudential Drive
    Jacksonville, Florida 32207

    Remember, you also have the right to know how your child is doing in school and his/her performance. To inquire about our child’s academic progress you may contact the school. A good way to start is to meet with your child’s teacher(s) and find out what you can do to help. Work with your child on homework, read to your child (or have your child read to you) and above all, talk with your child.

    Sincerely,
    Marilyn M. Barnwell,
    Principal
