Student ProgramsWe are safe. We are responsible. We are respectful. This year we are sailing in new student endeavors! Our students will have an opportunity to explore the activities below.Student Council: Our student council will be the HEART of student involvement. It’s the most representative and powerful student organization because it works for all students. A good student council has student respect and support by opening its doors to all interested students, and by being aware of student needs and opinions. Our student council will lead the way to positive changeNews Broadcast: Our students will be involved in producing the morning news program. Exposing students to school wide exposure to their peers boosts their confidence. Also communication skills are gained behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Writing the script reinforces the writing process learned in the classroom, giving students real life application of research skills, editing and grammar. Just as important as applying the mechanics of writing, students learn the importance of an engaging introduction to ‘hook’ the audience and a clever ending to make their story memorable. The anchors learn expression and fluency, valuable oral communication and reading comprehension skills.Tinikling: A dance which involves two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance. It is traditionally danced to music of choice. Engaging our students in physical activities helps keep them physically fit and healthy.
Art Club: The art club will allow our students the opportunity to explore their artistic strengths. Our art club will develop student interest and creativity through observation and hands-on experience. “The future belongs to young people with an education and the imagination to create.” – President Barack ObamaGreen Club: Making a commitment to environmental efforts is not just about doing the right thing it is also about doing the smart thing! That’s why at Gregory Drive Elementary our students will have an opportunity to learn about the ecosystem and do things that are environmentally friendly. Our Green Club students will lead the way with promoting recycling, preserving natural resources, reducing waste, starting a garden and beautifying our campus. We are not just ‘Mighty Dolphins’, we are also ‘Green Dolphins’. Embracing the Purpose: Recycling, Learning & Growing!
