Mr. Leon Mungin Jr., Principal

I am your new principal.  I am excited and honored to be a steward in our great community.  My goal is to continue providing a culture of service where students feel free to learn and staff members feel free to educate students in a collaborative environment.  I have 10 years of educational leadership experience.   I have worked in dropout prevention, adult education, and as an assistant principal of Edward White High School.  I also serviced honorably in the US. Coast Guard and I have 9 years of classroom teaching experience.  As I embark on this principalship, I realize that I have some heavy lifting to complete and giant shoes to fill. I am ready for the task.  Although I have been appointed to navigate this educational journey with you, this is an impossible task without a stalwart crew.  It is the dedicated members of this crew that make it possible for us deliver the instructional outcomes this community deserves. The Highlands Middle School is the Pride of the Northside.  Always remember, you cannot spell Highlands without an A.

Mrs. Mary Jackson, Assistant Principal

This is my second year at Highlands Middle School, and I am excited for the opportunity continue to be part of this school and to support the students, teachers, and families.  I have dedicated the last sixteen years to the field of education working with elementary, middle, and high school students.  I started my teaching career as an elementary teacher and later transitioned into leadership in middle school in 2009. During my career I have served as Dean of Students, Test Coordinator, Site Leader for the Bridge to Success at Westside High for overage students, and Assistant Principal.  I am thrilled to bring my skills as an educational leader to Highlands Middle School and to work with you as a partner in education, ensuring the success of students.  Throughout the year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide the students the best opportunities in preparing for the world, ready to master challenges placed in their path.  I encourage you to become involved in every way possible.  I look forward to meeting and working with you this school year.

It is with great excitement that I join the Highlands Middle School Team as your new Assistant Principal.  I am thrilled and privileged to be a part of this wonderful community.  I have fifteen years educational experience within DCPS spanning in grades 6 - 8, with a specific concentration in Middle School Science.  I have always worked in urban school settings.  I have acted in the capacity as a teacher in Alternative Education, a K - 8 Dean, Testing Coordinator, and my most recent assignment as the Assistant Principal at Jean Ribault Middle School.  I love what I do, I am passionate, and I am energetic.  I am deeply honored to work in Duval County Public Schools with its long history and sustained culture of academic excellence. I am committed to working with the Leadership team and the stakeholders, to nurture the academic, social, and emotional development of each of our students.  As we continue to encourage families to be partners in the educational process, my door will always be open.  I look forward to meeting the wonderful students and families of Highlands Middle School as we start the school year.
