The IB Diploma candidates are required to select one subject from each of the six subject groups.  The sixth subject may be chosen from group 6 or the student may choose another subject from groups 1 through 5.  At least three and not more than four courses are taken at higher level (HL), and the others at standard level (SL).  By arranging coursework in this fashion, students are able to achieve depth of study in the context of a broad and coherent curriculum over the two-year period.  

Group 1:  Studies in Language and Literature
Group 2:  Language Acquisition
Group 3:  Individuals and Societies
Group 4:  Sciences
Group 5:  Mathematics
Group 6:  The Arts  

In addition, the Diploma Programme has three core requirements:

The Extended Essay is an independent research project that offers the opportunity to investigate a topic of special interest. 

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a required interdisciplinary course intended to stimulate critical reflection upon the knowledge and experience gained inside and outside the classroom. TOK seeks to develop a coherent approach to learning. 

Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS) is a fundamental part of the diploma curriculum, involving students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies.       

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program is a lottery-funded scholarship rewarded to any Florida high school graduate who meets the requirements of the scholarship and demonstrates high academic achievement. Students can only use the Bright Futures scholarship for degree programs, certificate programs, or applied technology programs at eligible Florida public or private post-secondary schools.

The Florida Legislature is authorized each year to change eligibility and funding requirements.  Florida law recognizes both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program Diploma and the IB curriculum as methods of qualifying for a Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) or Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS) award.  Filing a Florida Financial Aid Application is required.  For eligibility criteria please click here.
