The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is a vital component of Duval County Public Schools, established in compliance with Florida Statutes 381.0056 and 1003.453. This council is a required entity for every school district in Florida and operates alongside county health experts and invested community members to fulfill its mission of promoting health and wellness within schools. Utilizing the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child framework, DCPS' SHAC adopts a whole-child approach to education by aligning the goals of education and health sectors.
Within the SHAC, there are various subcommittees which address specific topics, including Health Education in DCPS Schools, Health Services in DCPS Schools, Wellness, and Mental Health and Wellbeing.
