Congratulations to our DCPS National Award Winners
through Scholastic Art & Writing Awards!
Top regional works from Northeast Florida were sent for adjudication in New York and these national awards mark the top adjudicated pieces from our region and across the country. These students' works were adjudicated against other students their age across the USA, Canada, and even a few international countries--and they did incredibly well! This is by far the most national awards our visual art students have received within Scholastics! 27 visual art pieces earned 28 national awards!Indie DiMartino was awarded a Gold Medal and the American Visions Medal for the film "Usual." This double award means that not only was this film judged as one of the best films in the country, but it is seen as a visionary piece reflecting on current issues within our society. The works by Ava Goode, Erica Lehosky, and Indie DiMartino were marked as 3 of the top 5 works in Northeast Florida, and all three went on to earn national honors.Joey Leppo earned a Gold Medal for his piece "Last Supper, Part 1" as well as a Gold Medal for his Portfolio. Only 8 of these awards are given across the country each year to visual art students. This is a BIG deal! Not only are these national award winning students recognized on a national level, but Gold Medal students will have their work on exhibition in New York City at the Pratt Institute and Parsons School of Design during the month of June. The Scholastic Art & Writing Award Ceremony will take place on June 6th at Carnegie Hall.A HUGE congratulations to these students and their educators for these incredible and much deserved awards! We commend ALL of our visual art students and their educators for their work this year! We look forward to what the future has to offer you!
