Duval HomeRoom Gallery of Fine Art
With school closures due to safety measures, and the cancellations of our spring art exhibitions and performances, our team joined up with the Communications Department to celebrate our student artists in a new way:
"This gallery is a virtual showcase of student artwork – including mixed media drawing, paintings, comic art and editorial cartoons – that have received both local and national recognition from the Northeast Florida Scholastic Arts Awards and the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in New York City.
By simply visiting the gallery at https://dcps.duvalschools.org/artgallery the community can see works of art like 'Education vs. Treasury' which is an illustration of six individuals arguing about issues of education, military, health care, debt and education. Or 'Made of StarStuff' which is a comic art piece that shows the interaction between DNA strands and blood cells.
'We are so excited to be able to bring this virtual exhibition platform to our student-artists, their educators and to our community,' said Laurie Hoppock, Supervisor of the Arts for Duval County Public Schools. 'We needed to think about a way we could celebrate our students’ work in a new way and the Duval HomeRoom Gallery of Fine Arts answers that call.'
Currently featured in the gallery are 12 works of art from students at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, LaVilla School of the Arts, Mandarin High School and Paxon School for Advanced Studies.
'Being able to showcase the work of our talented student-artists is an important part of the creative process so that they can communicate their message to their audience, receive feedback, and continually develop their own personal style,' Hoppock said. 'This is especially true during these unprecedented times.'
