JWJ Students Featured at the Downtown Library's Gallery

2021 Scholastics There was a virtual awards ceremony to celebrate all of the regional winners of the SCHOLASTIC ART COMPETITION on Saturday, February 13th at 10 AM. All gold key pieces will be on display in the Maker Space Gallery located at the Jacksonville Public Library, downtown branch across from James Weldon Johnson Park (formerly Hemming Park) from February 13th until March 13th. Gallery hours are from 10-6, Monday through Friday.

Congratulations to Mrs. Holloway and our JWJ artists. The following students have received regional awards from the Scholastics Art Competition:

Gold Key-

Kayla Bolden and Ella Hutsell

 Silver Key-

Peyton Burris, Jada Celestine, Dilan Patel, and Connor Shugart

Honorable Mention-

Ria Adake, Carmelita Coy (2), Makena Huser, Jasmine Nguyen (2), Dilan Patel, Nandani Patel (4), and Katie Radisky

Scholastics is one of the oldest running art contests in the country and student artists go on to receive tens of thousands of dollars in scholarship money every year. It is only open to students ages 13-18 and there is no separation between ages nor the fact that some students attend arts magnet schools versus average schools. The fact that our JWJ artists receive awards is HUGE as they are up against seniors from Douglas Anderson as well as hundreds of other crazy talented teenagers from across North East Florida.
