School Information Regarding Storm Idalia
Update: Thursday, Aug. 31 (11:30 a.m.)
All schools will be open for normal school operations Friday, Sept. 1.
Our principals assessed their facilities and grounds this morning. Maintenance crews will address light damage causing any safety concerns today. Our custodial vendors and other staff are cleaning the schools that served as shelters. Everything will be ready to go for school to reopen tomorrow, Sept. 1.
Make-up days: Oct. 27 and Dec. 1
The district has enough time planned in the school calendar to cover one of the three closure days. We will need to make up two days. Those make-up days will be weather days already planned in the calendar: Oct. 27 and Dec. 1. So please, mark your home calendars now for Oct. 27 and Dec. 1 as school days.
Tomorrow is a “B” day
For schools that follow an A/B calendar structure, tomorrow is a “B” day.
We look forward to seeing everyone back in class tomorrow!
Update: Wed, Aug. 30 (5 p.m.)
District tentatively planning to reopen schools on Friday, Sept. 1
The district encourages all families and staff to plan on school reopening Friday, Sept. 1.
Before we can make a definitive announcement, we must fully close shelters and assess the condition of our schools.
We anticipate making a definitive decision by noon tomorrow, Aug. 31.
Please continue to follow this webpage for final information regarding the reopening of school.

Tentative Varsity Football Plan
District and school leadership have been working on multiple contingency plans for varsity football games this week.
We are tentatively implementing the following plan.
1. Teams will be allowed to practice on Thursday, Aug. 31. Players should get specific practice information from their coach.
2. Most games will be held on Friday. There are some exceptions. See full schedule below.
Because of the lead time required to host football games, we are implementing this plan now. However, if the impact of Idalia prevents this schedule, we will announce a new plan.

Varsity Football Games
No decisions have been made regarding the status of football games scheduled for Friday. School leaders, athletics staff, and district personnel have developed multiple contingency plans depending on the impact of the storm.
Once the storm passes, the district will assess the status of our facilities, consult with schools, and make final scheduling decisions in the best interest of player health and safety.
Superintendent Search Community Forums
The community forums for the superintendent search scheduled for tonight and Thursday have been postponed. Rescheduling information will be posted on www.duvalschools.org/search once new dates have been confirmed.
Update: Monday, Aug. 28 (12:05 p.m.)
Schools will be closed Aug. 29 through Aug. 31
Due to the impending storm, the need to open some schools as shelters for the community, and the expected impact of Idalia on our region, Duval County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week. This closure includes all school operations, afterschool activities, athletics, and other extracurricular activities.
No decision has been made for Friday.
Please note that for today (Monday, Aug. 28) all school operations, afterschool activities, athletics, and other extracurricular activities will remain as normal.
