Dear parents/guardians,

Good afternoon everyone.  We will continue the last of our FSA Writing testing this week.  Our 6th graders in brick and mortar will take this on Wednesday.  It is a paper-based test.  We will also make up any brick and mortar 7th and 8th graders.  The Writing test is a part of the FSA ELA test and counts approximately 1/5 of their total score.

There is a lot of testing in the coming month of May.  I’m attaching our test plan with some explanation of what the acronyms mean.  Always check with your cadet’s teacher as there are some changes we make last minute although we try not to.  I wanted to give you a heads up for your planning purposes.  All cadets will take at least two tests, some will take three, four and five depending on the course on his or her schedule.  The best thing you can do as a parent or guardian to help your child is to ensure that they get a great night’s sleep the night before, they are on time to school and they eat a good breakfast.

For my cadets in DHR (Duval Homeroom), you will notice some Saturday test dates. Please contact Ms. Brooks (brooksb1@duvalschools.org) to confirm your attendance.

We at JSMAL are striving to get 95% tested in each area so that we can get a school grade this year AND ensure that your cadet gets properly placed in the next grade level.

Has your cadet fallen behind?  Would your cadet benefit from some extra help this summer?  I’m excited to share a new learning opportunity for our students that is happening this summer. Duval County Public Schools invites you to attend a six-week summer academic enrichment and STEAM exploration program as together we prepare your child for the upcoming school year while having a fun summer! This free program will be available at select schools, but registration is open to all current 6th through 8th grade Duval County students. Transportation and meals will be provided. The program will take place June 14 through July 23, Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 4:15 pm. Registration flyers are attached and the deadline to register is May 7. Registration is limited and parents will be notified if their child has been selected by May 17. Please call the school if you need assistance with registering for the 2021 Summer Rise program. Thank you and have a wonderful day!
