The first few days of schools can be hectic with thousands of children transitioning to new grade levels and new schools.

We want to help you decrease the levels of stress and confusion with the tips below.

  1. Know where your child is going to school: For a variety of reasons, many parents may not know what school their child is enrolled in for the upcoming school year.  If this applies to you, please contact our School Choice and Enrollment Office. There are several ways:
    • Enrollment Hotline: Enrollment specialists are available now through Sept. 23 at 904-348-7777. Before Aug. 1, their office hours are Monday - Thursday, 8 AM - 3:30 PM. After Aug. 1, their hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM.
    • Make an Appointment: Families can also make an appointment to speak virtually or in-person with an enrollment specialist.
    • Email: Send an email to School_choice@duvalschools.org.Response time is within 48 hours.
  2. Is your child waitlisted? - If it's the first day of school and your child is on a waitlist for a magnet or special transfer school, please send them to their attendance-area school. You can use the school locator to determine their attendance-area school. Please also contact  Office of Enrollment and School Choice for additional guidance.

  3. Some schools still have open seats - Still shopping for a school for your child? Through the "Controlled Open Enrollment" process, families can apply to schools as long as that school has an available seat. Visit the Schools with Open Seats webpage to find a list of magnet and Special Transfer Option schools with open seats.

Visit the district's Enrollment and School Choice webpage for more information.
