August 25, 2026 - Duval County Public Schools educators came together in August for a week of learning, collaboration, and celebration at the Social Studies Symposium held at Florida State College at Jacksonville's South Campus. The event also marked the occasion of America’s 250th Anniversary, bringing together teachers, historians, instructional leaders, and content experts to explore ways to strengthen social studies instruction and inspire the next generation of informed and engaged citizens.

The day began with a special plenary session featuring the Wolfson School for Advanced Studies cheerleaders, remarks from Superintendent Dr. Bernier, and a memorable appearance by Benjamin Franklin, who helped launch the celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday. Throughout the symposium, educators participated in content-rich professional learning sessions designed to deepen historical knowledge, support state standards, and promote critical thinking, civic engagement, and historical inquiry in classrooms across Duval County.
