Helpful Reminders in a Crisis
If a student is expressing thoughts of suicide, remember these helpful suggestions:
Remain calm and express your concern. Remember ALGEE!
Do NOT leave the student alone, do not allow them to change classes, nor leave the school without the school counselor (or administrator) speaking with the student.
Call the school counselor or administrator for assessment of the student.
If you cannot reach the counselor or administrator by phone, walk the student to the appropriate individual either between classes or find a person to cover your class.
DCPS Crisis Hotline is available 24/7 for DCPS Staff concerned about a DCPS Student.
