May 4, 2026 - Teacher Appreciation Week offers an important opportunity to pause and recognize the extraordinary impact educators have on our students, schools, and community. In a recent conversation with a Douglas Anderson student, Superintendent Dr. Bernier reflected on the tireless efforts and lasting influence of teachers across Duval County.
“Teachers don’t get enough appreciation,” he shared. “They touch a future they can’t see. They touch lives every single day, but they may never get to see what the final outcome is.”
That unseen impact, however, is evident in the success of students throughout the district. Dr. Bernier emphasized that teachers play a role in every milestone a student reaches – from early learning through graduation.
“I often say it’s a pre-K to 12 system,” He said. “So whether you’re teaching an early 5-year-old or an 18-year-old senior, all of you are contributing to the graduation rate because without [teachers], we couldn’t get our students across the line.”
Beyond academic outcomes, Dr. Bernier highlighted the dedication and sacrifices that define the profession. Teaching, he noted, is both deeply meaningful and incredibly demanding.
“Unless you’ve been in a classroom… you don’t really quite understand the effort that goes in both in class, out of class, at home, and the sacrifice they make over a passion that they have,” he said, adding that Teacher Appreciation Week is a moment to recognize that commitment.
DCPS teachers don’t just deliver lessons – they deliver opportunities. They mentor, coach, sponsor clubs, and support students long after the final bell rings.
“They deliver every day,” Dr. Bernier said. “They’re there in the mornings, they’re there late at night… That’s why Duval Delivers, because our teachers do.”
This week, and every week, Duval County Public Schools proudly says thank you to the educators who make a lasting difference in the lives of our students and the future of our community.
