Mathematics

The mathematics department of Atlantic Coast provides a curriculum designed to significantly increase mathematical literacy in students, promote critical thinking, students working collaboratively, and expose students to mathematics in the real world. Mathematics is a subject in that every course builds upon the next. What you learn in one course is used in future courses. We offer advanced courses which include Geometry Honors, Algebra 2 Honors, Data and Financial Literacy Honors, AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Statistics, and our new course AP Precalculus, which had 95% of its students pass the AP exam as an inaugural course last May. Courses in mathematics go hand in hand with our school’s computer science, engineering, chemistry, and physics courses. The goal of the department is to prepare students for future success in mathematics in high school, college, career, and beyond and to have students be mathematically literate citizens.

In our mathematics department, we have teachers with a variety of experiences and backgrounds educationally and in life. Whether it is preparing students for state exams or AP exams, our teachers work tirelessly to make sure students are prepared for maximum success. Our teachers encourage students to work as a team to solve problems and to justify their responses with sound mathematical reasoning. Our teachers work together to create the best outcomes and classroom experiences for our students. Our teachers foster community and creativity so our students can be mathematically literate citizens.
