As part of an ongoing program with Duval County Public Schools (DCPS), four JEA linemen recently spent the morning with students at First Coast High School (FCHS) showing them the finer points of their work in the electrical field. Led by FCHS instructor and JEA retiree Carlos Sims, Linemen Frank Taylor, Butch Hartman, Cody Bunting and Bobby Parker interacted with students, allowing them to observe and handle tools such as hot sticks and rubber gloves and operate certain features of their trucks.  In past portions of this Electrical Academy, students learned about general job site safety, various electrical trades and the basics of electrical theory.

Additionally, DCPS and JEA are launching a Water Technology School at FCHS.  To get the ball rolling, DCPS is recruiting for a water technology teacher.  If anyone is interested in this position at FCHS, visit the job posting at DCPS' website. This is an opportunity for a skilled craftsperson in the water and wastewater industry to share their years of experience and knowledge with the workforce of tomorrow.
