What IS AVID?
AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a national program that is designed to prepare students for four-year college eligibility and completion. AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. AVID Curriculum is used at Fort Caroline in both an AVID elective classes and in all content areas in our school.
The AVID Curriculum
The AVID curriculum, based on rigorous standards, was developed by middle and senior high school teachers in collaboration with college professors. It is driven by the WICOR method, which stands for writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading.
The AVID Student
AVID is not for everyone. If you enjoy collaborating with others, learning and being at school, if you try your best in every class and hope to challenge yourself, and if you are open to learning new skills and study methods, then AVID is for you. If you want to achieve even more than you are now, but maybe you do not have support at home for academic and college planning, then AVID is for you. Finally, if you intend to apply to college, and you intend to apply for scholarships and financial aid and you would enjoy being a part of a strong class community while in middle school, the AVID is for YOU!
