A School Advisory Council is an elected committee made up of parents, staff, administrators, businesses, community members, and students (in secondary schools) who work together to help a school improve. By state law, school boards must establish an advisory council for each school.

• Provide Public Voice
  Post notice of meetings (date, time, place, and topies) and prepare minutes of the meeting (Follow Sunshine Lam)

  
  

• Develop Initiatives
  Initiate activities or programs that generate greater cooperation between the community and the school.

  
  

• Provide Recommendations
  Recommend various support services and resources.

  
  

• Vote on SRF and SIF
  Vote on how the school should spend. School Recognition Funds (1 applicable) fee the following school year, Vote on School improvement funds (if available)

  
  

• Adopt By-laws
  Each school advisory council shall adopt bylaws establishing procedures.

  
  

• School Improvement Plan (SIP)
  Assist in the preparation and evaluation of the school improvement plan (SIP).
