Welcome to Pine Forest School of the Arts! My name is Michelle Matthews, and I am honored to serve as the principal of one of the very best schools in Duval County. Pine Forest is truly a special place, and I am excited to welcome you to our school community.

It's hard not to smile when you walk through our doors. Our hallways are filled with incredible student artwork, classrooms are alive with engaging learning experiences, and creativity can be seen and heard throughout our campus every day. Pine Forest is a place where students are encouraged to grow academically, artistically, and personally.

As a proud graduate of Duval County Public Schools, it is especially meaningful to serve the district that helped shape my own educational journey. During my career with Duval County Public Schools, I have had the privilege of serving as a classroom teacher, Reading Coach, English Language Arts Specialist, Assistant Principal, and now Principal. I am thrilled to begin my ninth year leading this amazing school.

One of my favorite memories in education was teaching first grade alongside some of my own former teachers. That experience reminded me of the lasting impact educators have on their students and inspired me to continue creating meaningful learning opportunities for every child.

The arts have always been an important part of my life. I began taking dance lessons at the age of six. Over the years, I have developed a love for musical theater because it beautifully combines dance, music, and acting. While I have never learned to play an instrument myself, I especially enjoy spending time in our Strings classroom listening to our incredibly talented students perform.

My family shares that love of the arts. My oldest daughter attends Savannah College of Art and Design, where she is majoring in 3-D Animation. My younger daughter is entering ninth grade and enjoys playing the viola and caring for animals. She hopes to become a veterinarian one day.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our daughters, and our four beloved pets—Chase the Labrador, Viola the Corgi, Milo the cat, and Melody the bunny. Whether we're playing card and board games with family, traveling together, or cheering on the Jacksonville Jaguars, I treasure every opportunity to make memories with the people I love.

Our theme for this school year is "Sit Down. Settle In. Be a Part of Something Special." At Pine Forest, we pride ourselves on being more than a school—we are a family. My hope is that every student, parent, and visitor feels that sense of belonging from the moment they walk through our doors. We look forward to bringing this theme to life throughout the year and celebrating all that makes our school community so special.
