CELEBRATING SCHOOL COUNSELORS — Team Duval is proud to recognize National School Counseling Week and the incredible impact our more than 240 school counselors make every single day. They advocate for students, help them navigate their academic journeys, and guide them toward their goals. Our success as an A-rated district with a 97.6% graduation rate would not be possible without these dedicated professionals. As part of this special week, dozens of counselors gathered at the Schultz Center for their annual conference, focused on building student “superpowers” like grit and resilience – perfectly aligned with the national theme of helping students thrive and preparing them for college, career, and life. Their commitment to growing their own “superpowers” directly fuels student success across Team Duval. Join us in thanking our outstanding school counselors for the lasting difference they make in our schools and community!

Falcon Family Weekly Update
Quarter 4, Week 7
Greetings Falcon Families,
This is Principal Mungin with your weekly update.
I hope you and your family are having a great weekend. Our Falcons are approaching the end of testing and the end of the school year, and we are proud of the effort students showed during Reading and Math testing this past week. Our students are showing what they are made of. We now have 13 school days remaining in the school year. Let’s finish strong and earn our B school grade.
Parents, let’s continue to triple our efforts during testing season to ensure our students are in the right mindset each day.
Testing Schedule
Tuesday, May 12 Science Grade 8
Wednesday, May 13 Civics
Please make sure your student is well rested and arrives to school on time each day. On time is 8:05 AM. Your encouragement and support at home are critical during this time. Students may dress down on testing days.
Parents, please continue supporting your student’s academics. Grade level performance is defined as earning a Level 3 or higher on state assessments. These results directly impact a student’s ability to access advanced coursework, including high school classes taken while enrolled in middle school. Courses such as Algebra I provide pathways to accelerated academic opportunities and future success.
FAST Testing Support
Parents can support students by ensuring they
Get a full night of sleep
Arrive at school on time each day
Maintain positive study habits
Attend school consistently
Use all the time provided during testing
Our goal is to earn a B school grade, and achieving this requires a strong partnership between students, staff, and families.
Positive Parenting Coaching Tip
Research shows that positive reinforcement before testing improves student confidence and performance. Encourage your child by focusing on effort, preparation, and growth rather than pressure or fear of results. Students who feel supported and emotionally encouraged are more likely to remain calm, focused, and resilient during testing.
Attendance Matters
Our current attendance rate is 88.4 percent, a slight increase from last week. We must continue this upward trend. Every instructional minute matters, and consistent attendance is critical to student success, especially during testing season.

Positive Parenting Coaching Tip
One of the most effective ways to support academic growth is through simple peer-style conversations at home. Ask your child to “teach you” something they learned that day. When students explain their thinking out loud, it strengthens understanding, builds confidence, and helps them retain information for testing.

Our goal is to push toward earning a B school grade, and reaching that goal requires a strong partnership between our students, teachers, and families.
Positive Parenting Tip
During Spring Break, encourage your child to set one small academic goal for the week. This could be reading a book, practicing math skills online, or writing in a journal. Small learning moments during break help students return to school confident and ready for success.
Saturday Tutoring – FAST PM3 Push
Saturday tutoring will continue after Spring Break as we prepare students for PM3 testing. Students who receive invitations are strongly encouraged to attend.
Attendance Matters
Our current daily attendance rate is 88.6 percent. We would like to see this number increase during the final quarter. Every instructional minute matters, and consistent attendance is key to student success.
Reading Challenge Reminder
Students should continue our reading challenge by reading 2 hours each weekday and 6 hours on weekends, for a total of 16 hours per week. Strong reading habits help improve performance in every subject area.
8th Grade Parents
Please remember to send a baby photo of your student to Mrs. Anderson for the yearbook and promotional ceremony in May.

Uniform Reminder

Greetings Falcon Families,
This is Principal Mungin with your weekly update. I hope you are having a great weekend as we approach the end of the third quarter and prepare for a strong finish to the school year.
It is official. We are now Jacksonville STEM Academy. Our students have begun transitioning toward our new Magnet STEM program that will officially launch in July. Please help us celebrate this exciting step by sharing information about our new STEM programs with friends and families in the community.
Parents, please ensure your student is well rested, arrives to school on time, and is prepared to do their very best each day. Attendance is extremely important, especially as we approach state testing.
FAST Writing assessments will begin after Spring Break. State testing for Language Arts, Math, 8th Grade Science, Civics, and Algebra I will begin May 1st. Please help students build good testing habits by making sure they get enough sleep, attend school daily, and arrive on campus by 8:05 AM each morning.
Our goal is to push toward earning a B school grade this year. Achieving that goal requires a team effort between students, teachers, and families. Thank you for continuing to encourage your students to work hard and stay focused.

Research consistently shows that students perform better when parents engage in brief, structured academic conversations at home. Try the “Teach Back” strategy this week. Ask your child to teach you one concept they learned in class. When students explain material aloud, it strengthens memory, deepens understanding, and builds confidence. Even five focused minutes can significantly improve retention and mastery.
