As we begin a new school year, I would like to emphasize that student achievement is the primary focus of The Leadership Academy. It is our goal to create an environment for our girls and boys to succeed and achieve great success in academics.

Our vision/mission at The Leadership Academy is to become a world class middle school by empowering and equipping students to become responsible citizens and lifelong leaders.  Upon leaving The Leadership Academy our students will demonstrate confidence that will enable them to be productive, self-directed, lifelong learners, who will achieve academic success in high school and throughout life!

As a parent, you are a key part of your child’s success.  We at YMWLA rely on your support in all areas of the learning process in order for your child to truly excel. Our school is dedicated to the belief that each student will be provided opportunities to reach their full academic and potential.  In support of that belief, our staff is committed to doing the following:

  • Have high expectations for all of our learners.

  • Provide motivation for the learning process.

  • Arrange opportunities for all learners to be successful.

  • Provide a caring and positive class atmosphere for all students.

  • Implement a rigorous core curriculum that includes the Grade Level Standards.

  • Strive to be aware of the individual needs of your child.

  • Communicate with you regularly regarding your child’s progress.

Communication between home and school is very important to the success of the school. I encourage each of you to remain active in your child’s education. Always keep the lines of communication open with the school and reinforce the skills and procedures introduced by the classroom teachers on a daily basis. I welcome your participation in the school improvement process through the School Advisory Council (SAC) and our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). We will continue to send home monthly newsletters and weekly emails and encourage you to regularly check this website for our many school activities and events.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Mrs. Treva Christensen

Mrs. Christensen, originally from Joplin, Missouri, is an alumni of the University of Arkansas.  Woo Pig Sooie!!!!  She started off in business and transitioned to teaching in 2010.  She began her career at S.P. Livingston Elementary, where she taught PK - 2nd grade students with Emotional and Behavior Disorders.  After serving as their Behavior Interventionist and ESE Site Coach, she then transitioned to the Dean of Discipline at Lake Shore Middle School.  From there, she was promoted to her first assistant principal position at John Love Elementary.  Unfortunately, after one year, John Love was consolidated into Long Branch Elementary, so she was transferred to Mandarin Oaks Elementary.  She had a burning passion to get back into secondary education and transferred to The Young Men's and Women's Leadership Academy in 2022.

Mrs. Christensen truly believes that all students have the capability of achieving THEIR ultimate goals. Building strong relationships with students helps her become part of all her students' journeys.  At the end of the day, she feels there is nothing more rewarding than seeing an old student and that student remembering you as their favorite teacher.  Knowing the seeds that she was able to sprinkle, they were watered, taken care of, and they blossomed into a young person's dreams.
